馬來西亞媒體報導，馬來西亞民航局發表聲明表示，馬航MH370航班確定失事，並推定機上所有239名乘客和機組人員已遇難。

大馬媒體引述民航局總監阿茲哈魯丁（AzharuddinAbdul Rahman）的聲明表示，根據目前掌握的數據和搜尋情況推測，這架在南印度洋區域絕跡的客機經過327天後，人員生還的可能性十分渺茫。因此，根據芝加哥公約第12和13附錄規定，確定馬航MH370航班失事，並推定機上所有239名乘客和機組人員已全遇難。

阿茲哈魯丁表示，大馬政府意識到這項宣布對家屬來說難以想像，更難以接受，但希望這項宣布能夠幫助家屬獲得所需幫助，尤其是獲得賠償。不過，他保證搜尋客機工作依舊是優先事項，馬來西亞政府將繼續與大陸和澳洲政府合作，在合理的情況下，努力搜尋工作。

馬來西亞航空MH370航班3月8日清晨由吉隆坡起飛，預定6點30分抵達北京首都國際機場。但是這架波音777飛機在飛越越南領空，與越南航空塔台通訊之後，於2點40分與梳邦國際機場航管失聯，機上227名乘客和12名組員共239人下落不明，包括154名大陸籍、1名台灣籍旅客。
