李敏鎬首次挑戰大銀幕，在電影《江南1970》裡一改花美暖男形象，變身霸氣黑幫老大，而且為了呈現出不同以往形象，憂鬱粗獷的一面，他拍戲前幾個月就停止敷臉、擦乳液，留起鬍渣，把皮膚變黝黑甚至有點滄桑。

此外，為了大量高難度的打鬥戲份，李敏鎬更日夜都加入武術訓練，就算出國也將武術老師帶在身邊練習，就怕完成不了導演的要求。在片中可以看到他打得認真，揮拳更是兇猛有力，每個動作都做到精準到位，展現前所未見的男人味。

其中最關鍵的一場戲，是李敏鎬與金來沅在泥中與一票敵人對打，超過150個演員與替身，每天12小時，在雨中拍了整整一周，才完成這個驚人的鏡頭。

拍攝中更是意外頻傳，由於長時間在泥巴跟雨中拍攝，污泥跑進眼睛與耳朵裡，加上不斷對打，演員經常受傷，有時是外傷有時是泥中毒，每次喊卡時，導演第一句話都是問「有沒有人受傷？」

而李敏鎬在現場也一度腳傷，痛到不得不打嗎啡，止痛後再繼續拍攝，猶如挑戰意志力最高極限。《江南1970》1月30日在台上映。
