菲律賓日前發生規模7.2地震造成的死亡人數已達到156人，另外還有290多人受傷。震央附近「宿霧市」一座16世紀大教堂的鐘塔坍塌成廢墟，許多歷史建築及教堂也都嚴重毀損。

菲律賓總統「艾奎諾三世」偕同多名內閣閣員前往災區視察，討論救災措施，受災地區滿目瘡痍，災民經歷多起餘震，餘悸猶存，寧願露宿街頭，也不願返回屋內。

災區多數道路橋樑房屋都毀損，使得救災行動倍加困難，菲律賓出動空軍軍機穿梭災區，將11噸的救濟物資送入災區，政府也多方設法加緊救援。
