根據〈BBC〉調查，英國地區有超過1500萬人熬夜看英格蘭對義大利的比賽，結果目睹一場失望的比賽。

英格蘭與義大利開打的時間，在英國地區晚間11點，〈BBC〉調查顯示，最後有約1300萬名觀眾看完這場比賽。

由於英國對酒吧營業時間有規範，世界盃期間也特別放寬，英格蘭出賽的當天，可以晚一點打烊，因此增加不少收視人口。

英國〈西部日報〉描述，結果熬夜的觀眾看到英格蘭被逆轉，還有隊醫成為世界盃第一個擔架抬出去的窘境。

另外，根據微型網誌Twitter官方統計，在Daniel Sturridge於第37分鐘進球後，當下在Twitter上平均每秒有219,637 條與此有關的訊息發出，總計超過720萬條訊息。
