國民黨九合一選舉慘敗，行政院長江宜樺開票當天晚上立即宣布請辭，外傳閣揆將由行政院副院長毛治國接任。總統府發言人馬瑋國3日表示，有關閣揆人事，總統府會儘快以公開方式說明，不針對單一人選評論。

毛治國是成功大學土木系學士、麻省理工學院運輸管理博士；歷任交通大學管理科學系系主任、交通部主任秘書、觀光局長、高鐵工程籌備處處長、民航局局長、交通部常務次長、中華電信董事長、交通部部長、行政院副院長等職。

另外一可能人選是即將卸任的台北市長郝龍斌。
