日本職棒樂天金鷹隊王牌投手田中將大透過新入札制度挑戰大聯盟讓美職球界再度引起震撼。

最主要的原因還是，田中將大才25歲，若沒有意外，十分有機會成為各隊未來的主力先發投手之一。

當正式解禁的時間一到，紐約媒體「紐約每日新聞」馬上蠢蠢欲動，有的甚至強調「洋基隊應該全力去爭取田中。」

美國的主流媒體會去推薦日本球員本來就比較稀奇，不過這次把田中比喻為「他是像古巴重砲Yoennis Céspedes或是達比修有這樣具有話題與實力的球員，況且最近外籍球員都表現活躍，這個冬天請務必要獲得這位優秀的球員。」

洋基隊本季季外找來前勇士隊強打捕手Brian McCann、中外野手Jacoby Ellsbury等好手加盟，已經花掉3億美元。
