「圓仔」長大了！活動力越來越好的牠，目前正在學爬、練肌力，希望很快就能自由活動，為了增加爪子與地面的摩擦力，保育員找來木板讓圓仔練習，圓仔努力的蹬起後腿撐起前肢想要前進，爬著爬著就累到原地睡著，模樣非常可愛。

成為全民焦點的圓仔，最近很喜歡說故事，今天要說的是跟牠自己一樣，會攀爬、跳躍的可愛小不點，但正面臨著生存危機，牠們是-臺北赤蛙，因在臺北發現而命名。

動物園指出，在1999年，動物園的研究人員在臺北縣三芝一處睡蓮花田發現臺北赤蛙棲息，也記錄到包括臺北赤蛙共15種蛙類與許多的水生植物與昆蟲，隨即在當地設立長期調查樣區，進行臺北赤蛙生態研究。

多年來研究人員發現，曾活躍在臺灣西部田地與埤塘的臺北赤蛙，正面臨棲息地破碎化、消失與掠食者捕食危機而快速消失中。除了持續觀測臺北赤蛙族群，並與當地的居民、社區建立夥伴關係合作進行保育計畫，定期進行野外族群調查與棲地調查，也開始進行人工復育。多年來的試驗，已經能掌握保育繁殖的需求，並成功繁殖臺北赤蛙。

希望未來能與更多保育團體與地方主管機關共同合作，在推動有機農業之時，也能將臺北赤蛙野放回原來棲息地，使族群數量回穩；讓未來的後代子孫，也能夠聆聽到美妙的濕地交響樂。

臺北赤蛙隨水草與草叢而居，是最佳無毒生活環境代言「蛙」，如果用心觀察，就會發現還有很多可愛的小動物們其實就在你身邊呢！
