盼引重視　澳洲醫生坦承協助安樂死

澳洲醫生西梅(Rodney Syme)主張安樂死，他日前公開承認曾向多名病人提供動物安樂死用毒劑，從而協助他們自殺。

西梅主動要求警方對他提出起訴，以迫使法庭就安樂死公開辯論。 西梅表示，他用的是專用於安樂死動物的藥物戊巴比妥（Nembutal）。他憶述，食道癌病人格斯特於2005垂死，骨瘦如柴，要用導管餵食。西梅給他藥物，讓他安樂死，更從未隱瞞身邊的人。他近日更在電視台節目上公開，20多年來曾為許多病人開出戊巴比妥。

維多利亞省警方已就格斯特的死重新調查，將決定是否對西梅提出刑事檢控。 據報西梅過去幾十年來，一直為醫生協助病患安樂死合法化而奔走，如果他被控有罪的話，將面臨最高5年監禁的刑期。不過有反對安樂死團體則認為，法庭並不是討論安樂死議題的地方，而應該交由國會討論。（國際中心／綜合外電報導）
