雖說智慧型手機如今已在大部份人的生活中司空見慣，但在這個世界的某些角落，可能一個家庭只負擔得起一台 Nokia 105，哪怕是 ZTE Open 這樣的廉價產品對他們來說都是一種奢侈。為了改善這種情況，已經有公司開始了努力。Mozilla 目前正聯手展訊開發售價 25 美元（約 HK$190 / NT$750）的 Firefox OS 手機，而現在 ARM 也加入到了這一領域，聲稱在「未來幾個月內」就會讓大家見到 20 美元（約 HK$150 / NT$600）的 Android 產品。

不過按照他們的說法，以現有的生產技術來說，想要進一步壓縮成本似乎還不太可行。但儘管如此，20 美元仍然算得上是很了不起的成績。雖然這樣價位的產品只會配備單核心 Cortex-A5 處理器、EDGE 網路支援這樣的低階規格，但對那些只用過通話、簡訊等手機功能的消費者來說，能用可承受的價格享受到現代行動網路，顯然比硬體效能來得更為重要啊。
