【徐彩媚／嘉義報導】馬來西亞吉隆坡太子世界貿易中心，去年底舉辦2013年「馬來西亞國際金廚爭霸賽」，有7國近200位選手競逐，嘉義市水鳥日式餐廳總監陳冠宇，以台灣特色食材，民雄神農獎鳳梨、雲林台灣鯛、東港的櫻花蝦、中埔的紫山藥、臺東鹿野的黃金雞、南投埔里的筊白筍等，創作出一道道海味十足的「冠品珍味傲寰宇」，一舉奪得特級金牌的肯定。
 
陳冠宇表示，這次以日本料理的手法，用台灣在地的食材，來重新詮釋粵菜，是一次有趣的經驗。用意在讓國際評審能品嚐到全新風味的MIT粵菜。這項比賽限1小時挑戰師傅的功力和效率，獲獎對出生廚藝世家的陳冠宇而言，是鼓勵他對美食更加下功夫。
