隨著Kevin Garnett、Paul Pierce及Jason Terry於美國時間周五的正式加盟，布魯克林籃網隊總教練Jason Kidd絲毫不浪費任何時間，隨即設定好下一個球隊目標，就是挑戰邁阿密熱火隊。
Kidd提到：「他們可以做為我們的藍圖，他們身為總冠軍並拿下二連霸，還有可能完成三連霸。他們凝聚在一起試圖贏得總冠軍，而他們也已經成功。所以要想與之抗衡，你必須有絕佳的陣容，我認為現在萬事具備。」
聯盟核准的這筆交易，內容細節為將Garnett、Pierce、Terry和D.J. White送往布魯克林，而波士頓塞爾提克則接收了Gerald Wallace、MarShon Brooks、Kris Humphries、Keith Bogans、Kris Joseph和2014、2016、2018年的首輪選秀權。
Kidd相信現在的籃網已具備挑戰東區王座的條件，這筆交易使得Terry與Kidd在布魯克林重新聚首，他們兩位曾在2010-11賽季同時為達拉斯小牛效力，也是陣中的後場組合，並於當年的總冠軍戰一舉擊敗邁阿密熱火，高捧冠軍金盃。
Garnett和Pierce也從塞爾提克帶著兩度衝擊總冠軍的經驗來到籃網，其中包含2007-08球季的NBA總冠軍。
