根據台灣男性學醫學會調查，全台40歲以上男性，平均每5人中有3人、總計約113萬人，同時患有勃起功能障礙與攝護腺肥大，「該大不大、該小不小」，入夜害怕面對伴侶，又擔心夜晚頻尿吵到伴侶睡眠，成了怕進房門、寧待客廳的「熟男沙發族」。
 
醫師表示，勃起功能障礙及攝護腺肥大具有共同致病原因，年齡老化是一大關鍵，加上一氧化氮的不足、海綿體及平滑肌等組織血管缺氧，骨盆腔血管動脈硬化等問題，都容易造成這兩種疾病合併出現。
 
某些男性認為勃起功能障礙及攝護腺肥大頻尿等狀況，是步入中年的自然表現，不以為意，醫師引述國外研究指，每周2次以上性生活者，比起每月不到1次者，整體死亡風險下降50%，中年男性若能維持適度性生活，對健康更具有指標作用，另勃起功能障礙約2成可能合併患有心血管疾病，實在不可輕忽，建議積極治療，且現有療法可一次解決勃起功能障礙及攝護腺肥大，沒有必要擱著不理。（邱俊吉／台北報導）
