馬爾他司法、文化與地方政府部長歐文•邦尼奇25日上午在瓦萊塔召開的新聞發布會上宣布，上月在馬爾他海域發現一艘西元前7世紀腓尼基人的沉船，距今約2700年。

根據新華網報導，古沉船位於馬爾他第二大島哥佐島附近120公尺的水下。邦尼奇說該船保存完好，船體長約16.7公尺，是迄今為止在地中海發現的最古老的沉船之一。

據了解，由法國國家科研署贊助的一個專案的人員最先發現這艘沉船，隨後對該船進行了必要的研究。該專案致力於水下攝影測量法，運用3D記錄系統可低成本高效地完成水下研究，合作方包括法國國家科研中心、馬爾他大學考古學系、馬爾他文化遺產監管局等。

腓尼基人是最早的海運巨頭，其足跡幾乎橫跨整個地中海。據研究人員介紹，此次發現的是典型的腓尼基人船隻，據推測當時該船往返於薩丁尼亞島和馬爾他之間進行貿易，在這艘沉船上發現的珍貴文物包括火山岩磨石和50多隻7種不同風格的花瓶。
