彭博報導，消息人士透露，國際商業機器公司這回真的是急了，傳願意付錢給格羅方德半導體，只求格羅方德接收IBM旗下虧損晶片事業。

因相關協商仍屬機密而不願具名的消息人士指出，國際商業機器公司（International BusinessMachines Corp. ）開價近10億美元，希望說服格羅方德半導體公司（Globalfoundries Inc.）接手IBM旗下晶片事業。但消息人士指出，格羅方德要求IBM支付近20億美元，如此一來才能弭補該事業的虧損。

IBM豁出去了，欲付錢擺脫燙手山芋，凸顯執行長羅密提(Virginia Rometty)亟欲脫手獲利欠佳事業，以便讓帳面漂亮一點。儘管如此，相關協商破局，反映IBM不會不惜任何代價以求擺脫相關事業，而晶片業務仍將繼續拖累IBM的獲利。

消息人士6月透露，IBM旗下晶片事業年虧損最多達15億美元。IBM連續9季營收衰退後，羅密提正卬力達到2015年盈餘目標。

IBM與格羅方德的發言人雙雙謝絕對報導置評。
