馬總統出席巴拿馬總統瓦雷拉就職典禮，與多國元首坐在第一排；鄰座是薩爾瓦多總統桑契斯、瓜地馬拉總統培瑞斯，同排還有宏都拉斯、哥斯大黎加等元首，美國國務卿柯瑞也出席。

就職典禮開始前，馬總統與各國元首在貴賓室等待，也和我友邦及其他國家元首、代表互動。馬總統和美國總統歐巴馬的特使、國務卿柯瑞在國際場合「巧遇」，這也是繼二○○九年馬總統在薩爾瓦多總統就職典禮及國宴與當時的美國國務卿希拉蕊寒喧、去年馬總統出席教宗就職典禮與美國副總統拜登互動之後，台美最高層的非正式接觸。
