伊朗祭出嚴密防守，讓阿根廷整場比賽坐困愁城，眼看要和局收場，Lionel Messi再成關鍵人物，傷停補時突破封鎖，攻破波斯之星城池，最終1：0險勝。

2014年世界盃F組第三場比賽，台北時間22日凌晨12點於美景市米內羅體育場展開，阿根廷成為該組率先搶下6分積分出線的球隊。

〈美聯社〉記者Pan Pylas接受伊朗〈德黑蘭時報〉採訪時曾預測，伊朗有機會複製希臘於2004年歐洲國家盃成功的經驗取得晉級，只要把防守反擊的特色做最大發揮。

此役阿根廷果真在伊朗的緊盯下，全場久攻不下，Messi持球的機會也不多，直到傷停補時第91分鐘，左路帶球閃過防守後左腳起射破門。

Messi在國家隊最近的30次進球中，有29球為左腳踢進，也是第一次在世界盃連續兩場進球，這一球也替阿根廷踢下十六強門票。
