索契冬運結束，最風光的莫國於地主俄羅斯，獎牌數居所有參賽國之冠，除此之外，荷蘭所掀起的橙衫風暴，也成為討論焦點。

荷蘭這次奪下8金、7銀、9銅共24面獎牌，於獎牌榜上名列第五，他們這次派出41名選手參賽，除短道競速滑冰貢獻1銅，其餘獎牌全來自競速滑冰項目。

不僅如此，荷蘭在女子1500公尺，男子10000公尺、男子5000公尺與男子500公尺包辦金銀銅。

結果也出現了速滑都荷蘭在玩的聲音，有點類似中國大陸獨霸桌球項目的情況，但荷蘭奧委會秘書長Gerard Dielessen曾表示，別的國家沒牌，表示還要再加強訓練，怎麼反過來怪荷蘭？

荷蘭團隊也表示雖然此次成績出乎意料地好，但光是荷蘭國內的競速滑冰國手選拔賽，競爭水平就高過奧運，且團體與個人訓練都相當注重。

荷蘭是競速滑冰運動發源地之一，將有競爭力與發展性的運動專精而深入地發展推廣，培養出大量的人才，國際大賽自然有不少可用之兵，值得在奧運參賽項目不多的國家參考借鏡。
