許多觀光客來到台灣華西街，總愛看廚師用俐落刀法宰蛇。中國廣東一名廚師在料理泰國眼鏡蛇時，竟不慎遭到咬死。
 
英國《每日郵報》報導，該名彭姓廚師先將蛇頭剁去，而後又將手伸入垃圾桶時，遭到斷頭反咬，蛇毒隨即注入廚師體內快速擴散。一名44歲顧客表示，當時他準備和太太慶祝生日，忽然聽到廚房傳來大叫，許多餐廳人員衝進廚房，隨後有救護車趕到，但彭姓廚師已經死亡。
 
該顧客表示，他們聽聞消息後無法繼續用餐，便離開該店。警方表示，男子呼吸系統被毒液癱瘓，注射血清前就死亡。醫院表示，「除了血清以外，沒有東西救得了他」，但救護人員抵達為時已晚。
 
一名有40年經驗的蛇類專家說，所有爬蟲類的身體遭切除的一個小時內，仍然可以運作，即便是遭斷頭也一樣。（余浚安／綜合外電報導）
