菲律賓示威人士今天(4日)在美國駐馬尼拉大使館附近，與鎮暴警察發生衝突，造成1名警察與1名示威人士受到輕傷。

今天是美國獨立紀念日，美國大使館舉行「菲律賓與美國友誼日」活動。大約100名示威群眾，以遊行方式向大使館推進，要求廢止菲律賓和美國達成的「美菲增強防務合作協議(Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement)」。這項協議的效期為10年，允許數千名美軍得以暫時進駐菲律賓。

發起示威的菲律賓青年學生團體「民族青年」(Anakbayan)主席克里索斯托莫(Vencer Crisostomo)表示，4月間由兩國簽署的「美菲增強防務合作協議」是一項不平等協議，出賣菲律賓的國家主權。

克里索斯托莫指出，這項協議非但不能嚇阻中國，反而讓中國與菲律賓之間的緊張關係更加惡化。

菲律賓與中國大陸正因為南海主權爭議，升高了緊張關係。
