comScore 之前發佈的調查報告顯示，iPhone 已經佔據美國智慧型手機市場的 41%，升級 iPhone 的費用也高於 130 美元的平均開支。此外，美國人每年用於升級智慧型手機的費用超過 110 億美元，23% 的成年人表示，他們每年都會升級一次手機。

除了使用者本身的升級欲望，電信商的購機套餐也讓使用者的升級計畫變得更加方便快捷。現在，美國三大電信商提供多款設備升級套餐，使用者可以在超過兩年的時間裡分期付款一部新手機，也可以在 6 個月內快速購買。

此外還有不少人選擇在二手市場升級設備。在二手手機交易網站 Gazelle.com 上，Verizon 版 16G iPhone 5 的價格為 280 美元，iPhone 4S 的價格只有 110 美元。根據 Gazelle.com  的統計，今年網站 iPhone 的交易額比去年同期增長了 74%。
