《彭博社》周一 (25日) 報導，澳洲央行副總裁 Philip Lowe 指出，澳洲企業需要提高效率以維持生活水平成長，並讓工程師們得以騰出採礦工程建設空間，打造更多基礎設施。

Lowe 在雪梨發表演說指出：「我們不能再依賴貿易成長和人口結構優勢，讓經濟更加富裕。若不實現生產效率的增長，我們就得面對實際薪資、企業獲利、資產價格增幅和政府稅收、服務成長的多項放緩局面，短期層面來看，我們的平均生活水平首當其衝。」

他的發言呼應財政部首席經濟專家 David Gruen 的說法，後者稱澳洲在未來 10 年內，將面臨 50 年首見的疲軟經濟成長趨勢。Gruen 於 11 月 21 日表示，若澳洲經濟要保持目前的收入成長水準，勞動生產力未來 10 年內得年度平均揚升 3.2％，但這樣的比率前所未見。

澳洲央行已然將國家基準利率下砍至歷史新低 2.5％，嘗試與礦業投資脫鉤重新平衡成長，投向製造業、住宅建設和服務業等其他產業。

Lowe 指出，國家的礦業景況，正由勞力密集的建築階段轉型，需要的勞動人口減少，有助於提振生產效率。
