批評蘋果缺少創新的人，又有了一份新的報告，支持他們的論點：這家網路商品製造廠的研發費用，才勉強打進前50名。

在本周公布的歐盟研發支出報告中，蘋果排名第46。該報告係根據研發支出，羅列出全球前2000家企業。

儘管過去幾年，蘋果缺少具有突破性的新產品，已成了科技業的熱門話題，但該公司在研發費用的投資，其實已明顯增加。蘋果2012年排名，較2004年報告所獲得的排名，大幅進步了109名。

雖然幾家科技公司去年在研發費用上，超越了蘋果，但蘋果與第二名的三星，第三名的微軟與第十三名的Google均明顯不同。這三家企業都是蘋果的競爭對手，但他們銷售的產品與服務，範圍要廣得多。

以銷售量增加而言，蘋果的投資資金效用，超過大多其他企業。

歐盟研發支出報告亦列出了獲利企業排名，這些企業於2004年以來，其研發支出與銷售均成長逾200%。美國科技業囊括了前五名：蘋果排名第四，落後Google，甲骨文(Oracle)(ORCL-US)與Qualcomm (QCOM-US)。

半導體製造商Broadcom (BRCM-US)排名第五。
